The Lawson Family lived in Florence, KY. Florence is just down the road from me.
This LP is a cut above your standard gospel fare and very nice for local private press. I would have loved to have heard them perform.
A few months ago I found an album by The Siler Family, another local country/hillbilly gospel act. On that album Kyla, one of the Siler daughters did an original song, Guardian Angel. Apparently The Silers and The Lawsons lived next door to each other (same area). I was surprise to note on the back cover that The Lawsons do a cover of Guardian Angel. According to the liner notes their 10 1/2 year old daughter, Karen Sue sings the song.
What are the chances, after 40 some years of obscurity, that these two families would once again share their music?
That little girl is my mom Karen! She's 52 years old now and lives in Florence, Kentucky. The reason for the "hillbilly sound" as you mentioned was because my grandparents were both from Scott County, Tennessee.
