This blog features the many gospel albums I find. 90% of the records featured here were created by local Cincinnati, Ohio area artists (on Jewel, Rite and Queen City record labels among others). Here you will find the Good, Bad & Ugly but never The Lackluster! If there are copyright issues or a problem with any post, just contact me and I will make corrections. I'm here to have fun and hope you will share in my process of discovery!

The Patrick Family Album
Engineered and Produced by Rusty York
Jewel Records - Cincinnati, Ohio
LP 113
Terrific Cincinnati area "southern" gospel example featuring fine session work by local musicians, at least several, whose names I recognized from other Jewel recordings I've collected. Rusty York (Owner/operator of Jewel) listed himself as "producer" for this project. He even wrote the jacket notes. York, a musician himself, appears to have been a "one-man-show" "producing" and co-ordinating the entire sessions, engineering and doing post production work that may have included jacket design.
Dennis Hensley - Lead Guitar
Charles Patrick - Rhythm Guitar
Ray Wilson - Steel Guitar

The Gospel Singing Burton Family
Crusade Enterprises - Flora, Illinois
LP 152
The Burton Family (Cincinnati, Ohio) lists their mailing address (hometown) as Fairfield, Ohio. This album was manufactured by Crusade Enterprises located in Flora, Illinois rather then by one of the numerous local labels (Jewel, Rite Records or QCA (Queen City Album). The cover treatment is different than most local production in that the "art" is a lushly pre-printed affair The art is a sheet of stock glued to a blank jacket with one-color gold ink over printed (title on the jacket).
If I remember correctly, I think, at least a few of the Burtons (Grady Burton, Sr., Grady Burton, Jr., Betty Burton and Danny Burton) did a lot of session work on locally produced gospel albums.
This is a very good effort that captures the Cincinnati, Ohio area "southern country gospel" sound, which I've noticed is unique compared to that heard on records that I've collected that were produced in other parts of the country.
