Over The Walls - Beacon Of Hope Chapel Singers

Stealin' In The Name Of The Lord

And now for an obscure gospel record from an inmate group formed at The Kansas State Penitentiary. According to the back cover, the group traveled within the state beginning in 1966 playing for civic, church and school groups.  Funds from sales of this record went to help build a chapel on penitentiary grounds.

The name of the prison was changed in 1990 to The Lansing Correctional Facility. I can find no information online about this group or if a chapel was built on prison grounds.

  1. I found a copy of this in a junk store today. I had a typed note glued over the upper right corner of the album back that reads:

This was a group of talented and dedicated inmates of the Kansas State Penitentiary.

The group, founded by another inmate, the late Robert L. Covington was in existence as a traveling group starting in 1966. And as such, appeared in concerts before civic, church, and school groups through-out Kansas.

This album has been donated to the M2-W2 Volunteers in Prison Program. Therefore, everyone donating funds to further this program will be given an album at their request as long as they are available.

The M2-W2 Volunteers in Prison Program recruits and trains citizen volunteers to work one-on-one with men and women during their confinement and after parole.
