The Serpent
Turn It All Over
Heritage Records
Now for a little white gospel from a lost to history Oklahoma artist.
Released sometime after 1982 (a date found on the back cover). The first commercial CD was produced in 1981. So this record was made at the very end of mass commercial recording on vinyl.
Winfrey wrote 5 out of the 10 songs on the LP, including The Serpent. The songs are, for the most part, typical white gospel, all-be-it, sung in a very "unique" and aged vocal style by the Winfrey. More like what you might expect from a private press that features an older gentlemen singing country gospel a bit off key and out of time. But the sample song I posted above is not like the other tracks. The tune has a 60s psych lyric and vocal feel that is blended with an 80s lounge pop instrumental. Very weird. Of course, I love it!
